Participation Mitzvah

Participation Mitzvah

5775 (2011-2012)

The world stands on three pillars
on Torah (learning),
on Avodah (worship/service),
and on Gemilut Hasadim (acts of loving kindness).

This year, B’nai Vail is inviting our members to consider a pledge of your time as you contemplate the pledging of dues. Be it the commitment of an afternoon or a more substantial undertaking, there are numerous and varied ways to become involved. We hope to engage the talents of all of our members in some meaningful way. Keep in mind…

·        Community is only as strong as its’ members’ engagement.

·        Our staffing and dues are significantly less than congregations of comparable size. In order to keep our membership costs affordable for locals and be a resource for visitors, we need everyone’s help.

·        Those who participate in the building and strengthening of community know how much they receive through the process of giving. We encourage everyone to experience this mitzvah!

Opportunities

Holidays
B’nai Vail organizes events for at least eight holidays every year: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, TuB’Shvat, Purim, and Passover. Let us know which holiday you would enjoy helping to plan or would be willing to participate in.

Shabbat
We hold approximately ten Shabbat morning services in the summer, and another eight to ten Friday evening services, often with dinner, during the ski season. For each of these services we welcome sponsors for the Kiddush or help with set up and clean up.

Friday Night Pot Lucks
Our commujity loves to share dinners in people’s homes. Let us know ifyou’d enjoy hosting a dinner or perhaps providing your favorite dish.

Chesed-Caring & Compassion
In a strong community, members are there for one another. We’re compiling a database of people who would be available for: meals for the ill or injured, transportation, hospital orhome visits, making a minyan, or other such needs as they arise.

Tikkun Olam – Repairing the World
For the past year, we’ve been partners in the Interfaith Feeding Ministry at the Edwards Chapel. One Thursday per month we’ve been providing supper for the less fortunate. Sustaining this commitment calls for more volunteers. Sign up to help, or perhaps you want to spearhead a Habitat for Humanity project, a B’nai Vail team for an annual community clean up, or a holiday food drive?

Adult Education
Jewish learning, like all learning, is a lifelong endeavor. Our rabbi is looking for a team to help with the planning and coordinating of these programs.

Marketing
Our members and visitors tell us that they love what we do, we just need more help getting the word out! Let us know how you’d like to share your talents – write an article, help update our website, submit photos or copy for our newsletter.

Chesed is the Hebrew word for Compassion. Acts of loving-kindness, gemilut hesedim, are among the three pillars upon which the world stands, according to the Mishna. If you would like to participate in this mitzvah, by being available to offer rides, meals, hospital or home visits, child-care, grocery shopping, or participate in a minyan, please contact Evie Rosen-Budd at (970) 401-4622 or rosen.evelyn1@gmail.com
